I present to you
This post is the culmination of a semester long project that I am beyond delighted was a part of English 90. To begin with, I would like to acknowledge how much I enjoyed this process of blogging my free-write assignments. I have kept a personal blog since early 09 and to know that my first semester in college would be documented in some way was very motivating. I find writing to be very therapeutic. To be able to turn your feelings into words and let your emotions out without having to speak is what I enjoy most. As a person I am very introverted by nature, but as a writer I have no limit. My writing is an expression of who I would like to be. Talkative, outgoing and full of energy.
Although I enjoy blogging about random things or sometimes specific topics when given the opportunity I have never created a poem. I was completely lost how to go about this process and to be quite honest wasn’t sure I would come up with something worth reading. The blog post I am referring to is curly giggles. I knew if I were to write a poem I wanted it to be about my daughter. I also knew I wanted to reference all the things she signifies to me. A talkative, curly haired, full of energy little rainbow. I know the poem I wrote doesn’t do her justice, but I am proud of the effort I put forward. I try using my writing as a way to voice what I feel or what I would never be able to speak out loud. I also use my writing as a form of therapy. An example of this can be seen in my blog post Joshua Alexander. I have written about his death before in my personal blog but this post was different. I was given a template to follow and instructed to provide enough detail that the reader would be able to visualize what it felt like to lose someone. It is few and rare the occasions I am able to tell or in this instance write about my son passing away so when presented with this opportunity I took full advantage to be able to tell part of his story in a manner I had never done so before.
As a whole you can evaluate the effort I put into this entire process by the customization of the blog itself and further by reading each individual post. I not only wrote what I believe to be well thought out pieces but made sure I was giving each post my best effort. As the semester progressed and I learned how to form proper essays my writing progressed as well. If you review my posts from the beginning it is my hope that this progression can be viewed as apparent. I took my time with each post and on some occasions took a couple of days to finish one entry. I wanted each entry to be a clear representation of what I wanted to accomplish this semester not only as a writer but as a student. That is, I wanted to learn and utilize what I was learning. In total there were 12 entries to be made all of which I have posted. They have all been published within the given time frame and have all been written with effort.
In closing this final entry, I would like to say I don’t know what type of writer someone will describe me as after reading this portfolio in it’s entirety. My only hope is that they will describe me as an improving writer. One with passion and one with a thrive to continue to grow as a writer which I hope is proven by my work. If given the opportunity to grade myself, which you are indeed providing I would give myself a 95. This would be equivalent to an A. I know whole heartedly I gave each post my full effort and made each post meaningful. Furthermore, I took extra consideration that the appearance of the blog itself was intriguing to the reader. Some posts have pictures or videos attached that are relevant to my writing. The picture in the header is of my daughter and was taken by me. I didn’t want the blog to feel impersonal. I hope I succeeded in accomplishing this.
